CHARACTER
Name: Haldir of Lorien
Canon: Lord of the Rings
Age: Looks to be in mid 20s early 30s. Actual Age: Not stated
Timeline: He will be in preparations to head toward Helms Deep.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A
Personality:
Haldir has pride for his people and the land. He would do anything to make sure they are safe and secure. He’s extremely close to his brothers Rumil and Orophin as they follow him where ever he goes and rarely leave his side. Between the three of them, he is the one most fluent in various languages being able to speak Elven, Common (also known as Western) and some Dwarvish. They look to him in the group to take charge and interact with outsiders. This is a sign of his natural leadership capabilities, that not only can he lead armies, but is also looked to lead the way even amongst close family and peers.
Being close to his family could also be considered a weakness for Haldir as he will do anything to protect them. It would also be an adjustment for him to not have his brothers around and make him feel a little more vulnerable. It would have to force him to rely on others for their aide should he need it.
One of the traits that make him suited for such a position is his quick thinking. For the most part Haldir is good at making quick and sound decisions. However when he does make a decision… it’s very hard to get him to change his mind. He can be stubborn about it because clearly his first instinct would not usually be wrong. When he does change his mind it’s because he realizes that the situation could benefit more from it. It doesn’t mean he himself approves of it.
First impressions play a big factor in his decisions, as he is one to trust in his instincts and judgments, generally quickly assessing a person or situation as needed. He also tends to base his initial opinion on all he meets based on their cultures and past deeds, possibly because of his own Elvish heritage of which he is quite proud and stands by. It is very rare that he would turn around later to apologize for such behavior. When he does, it’s showing that he respects the other on their own merit.
For the most part Haldir can come off as haughty, a trait that ties in with his pride as that tends to be a strong trait among the Elves. His dislike for Dwarves is quickly noted, but again another trait that Elves have. However, he is able to separate his dislike and push past it knowing it was important that the tasks must be done. This shows that despite his prideful and somewhat haughty nature, he places his position and duty above all else.
Haldir has a strong sense of honor in his part of upholding the Old Alliance and respects the effort of what his men have done and understands the frailty of life this presents. It had been a long time since they fought alongside Men and been given an opportunity to be reminded of what mortality looks and feels like. Since it has been long since he’s worked alongside Men, Haldir is not used to their customs, such as open affection and is startled by Aragorn’s hug upon his arrival at Helms Deep. However, he’s quick to regain his composure. Haldir himself is rather aloof and tends to keep his feelings inside, always striving for remaining composed.
For these reasons, Haldir may be seen as somewhat severe, but there are times he shows a faintly more relaxed nature, hinting that he is capable of it when he is not on duty. Though it isn’t likely a side many get to see often. Sometimes his ton and composure makes it hard to tell if he is teasing, only those who know him well would be able to tell the difference.
While Haldir may be a marchwarden and took the time to lead the army of Elves to Helms Deep, it seems that he is content with his position and has no real desire to move up or do anything beyond his duty. He is quite content spending his days out in the forest protecting the borders and delivering news or advice when necessary. Leading the army of Elves to Helms Deep was considered a big honor for him and something he does not regret doing.
A quirk that may crop up for Haldir is that the concept of Time may be problematic, due to the fact of how Cara Galdhon works. A day could last a couple of weeks there. He would have a hard time adjusting to this and may have a hard time meeting people at scheduled times having simply lost track of time.
Time won’t be the only issue he will have trouble adapting to; however, as adaptability is not his strong suit with his stubborn pride and quick judgments until proven otherwise. As this will be his first time interacting largely with a varied populace, it will be a big and difficult adjustment for the Elf.
Background:
http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Haldir_(Lorien)
Abilities:
Haldir is a skillful warrior and able to use both the bow and sword. He can also improvise when necessary. He can command small groups and later was given permission to lead a small army. As a marchwarden he is a skillful tracker and can conceal himself in the forest easily. He can approach a person or group unnoticed. He understands the way of nature and the forest as he spends most of his time amongst it and will listen to what the woodland has to say. It is rare that things go unnoticed through Haldir as he is quick to note everything.
He can quickly make decisions and will act upon them right away without delay. One has to be swift if they wish to change the Elf's mind. Everything is based on first impressions and the news and information he gathers. It is rare for others to question Haldir's decision and rarer for him to change his decisions.
Haldir also knows a few languages outside his peoples' language. He is quite fluent in Western (also known as Common) and knows some Dwarvish. Often he is the one to confront any outsiders that happen to trespass in their land. By preference he would speak in Elvish until it's clear the party is unable to or demands the Western language. He is also one to send out messages when necessary.
Due to the fact that Haldir is an Elf, he has many abilities that surpass the humans. He is able to resist aging, disease, and inebriation. Although death can happen through violence or injury to the spirit. They technically do not need to sleep and can travel long distances without the need for food or having to rest. Nor do they leave any tracks behind as they are very light footed.

Third Person:
Haldir strolled through the woods of the new land he had been sent to. While he had received vague answers of what was to be expected, he still wasn't content. His mind was elsewhere, on the upcoming battle at Helms Deep. He needed to help his friends there and couldn't dwell here. Only now he was forced to put that aside whether he wanted to or not. For what purpose?
The fact that there seemed to be no purpose, angered Haldir alone. He didn't like his time to be wasted. And it looked like people were merely wasting their lives away here. Most were trying to carry their everyday lives as if they had never left home. It seemed as if most had simply given up or didn't try to find a way back to their homes.
Frustrated, Haldir sought refuge in the woods. He looked to the woodlands in hopes of gaining some kind of answers. Only all he could get were whisperings of the past....He took careful note of what was given as even the past could bring valuable information. There was a library in the city, that he would later venture to in hopes of finding more information based on what he had discovered.
Eventually he made his way to an abandoned cabin and decided this would be a good camping ground for now. He didn't plan on returning to the city just yet and had informed Celebrain where he would be. She had been intent that the three of them share a place together for the time being. If it hadn't been for her invitation, he would have stayed within the woods the entire time.
